Tidings of Comfort and Joy
Ugh, it’s really been uncomfortable outside recently (until this week)—two straight weeks of sub-freezing temps! The holiday season, on the other hand, is known as a time for “Tidings of comfort and joy.” So how does one keep up the “comfort and joy” when the holiday décor is taken down, and the weather forecast is for MORE uncomfortable cold and snow? How about cooking up some great “comfort food” and pairing it nicely with some “not-so-uncomfortably” priced wine!
Here is a short list of value-picked wines (currently under $10 & available at Otto’s Wine & Spirits stores), paired up with some of my favorite “comfort food” dinner suggestions for you to consider:
· Delas 2015 Syrah,…..$7.99/Sale, reg. $9.99
(paired dinner: Beef Roast with root vegetables)
· Fontella 2015 Chianti, 90 Pts—James Suckling….. $9.99/Sale, reg. $11.99
(paired dinner: Baked Ziti with charcuterie of cheese and olives)
· Grilos 2014 Red Blend, 90 Pts—Wine Enthusiast “Best Buy”…..$9.49/Sale, reg. $12.99
(paired dinner: Roasted Pork Tenderloin with rosemary and sage stuffing)
· Carmenet 2015 Vintner’s Collection Reserve Chardonnay,……$8.99, reg. $9.99
(paired dinner: Salisbury Steak with buttered egg noodles and peas)
So, here’s to the New Year! Here’s to a little more “comfort and joy” this winter season (with some comfort food and wine)!
Cheers!
